Welcome to Unit 3: User Interface Elements
Welcome to Unit 3 of Mobile Application Development, where we explore the essential User Interface (UI) Elements, Controls, and Widgets used to design interactive and user-friendly Android applications.
This unit provides students with a practical understanding of how Android applications display information, accept user input, provide selections, show images, display progress, and interact with users through different UI components. The concepts are explained in a simple, structured, and beginner-friendly manner, making them suitable for students who are beginning Android UI development.
You will begin by learning about commonly used Android UI Controls and Widgets, including TextView, Button, ImageButton, and EditText. These components form the basic building blocks of Android application interfaces and are frequently used in forms, login screens, registration pages, and other interactive applications.
The unit further introduces selection-based controls such as CheckBox, RadioButton, RadioGroup, AutoCompleteTextView, and Spinner, helping students understand how users can select, enter, and interact with different types of information.
You will also learn how to display images using ImageView, select dates and times using Date & Time Pickers, and provide visual feedback using ProgressBar. The unit concludes with Dialogs, which are commonly used to display messages, confirmations, warnings, and user interaction prompts.
📚 In this Unit, You will Learn:
🔹 UI Controls & Widgets
🔹 Introduction to Android User Interface Elements
🔹 TextView – Displaying Text
🔹 Button – Performing Actions
🔹 ImageButton – Button with an Image
🔹 EditText – Accepting User Input
🔹 CheckBox – Selecting Multiple Options
🔹 RadioButton – Selecting a Single Option
🔹 RadioGroup – Grouping Radio Buttons
🔹 AutoCompleteTextView – Providing Automatic Suggestions
🔹 Spinner – Selecting an Item from a List
🔹 ImageView – Displaying Images
🔹 Date Picker – Selecting a Date
🔹 Time Picker – Selecting a Time
🔹 ProgressBar – Displaying Progress
🔹 Dialogs – Displaying Messages and User Prompts
Throughout this unit, students will learn how to design interactive Android application screens using different UI controls and widgets. Practical examples will demonstrate how these components can be configured and used to accept user input and respond to user actions.
By the end of this unit, students will be able to identify and use common Android UI controls, create input forms, handle user interactions, implement selection controls, display images, select dates and times, show progress indicators, and create interactive dialogs.
This unit provides an important foundation for advanced Android topics such as Layouts, Event Handling, Menus, Fragments, Intents, Database Applications, RecyclerView, Forms, Notifications, and Complete Android Application Development.
