Maven & JDBC Maven Project Management For IT Students (BCA Semester 3 Advance Java : Unit 2)

Welcome to Unit 2: Maven & JDBC

Welcome to Unit 2 of Jakarta EE & Web Architecture, where we explore two essential technologies used in modern Java application development: Apache Maven for project management and JDBC for database connectivity.

This unit provides a practical understanding of how Java projects are created, structured, managed, built, and connected to relational databases. The concepts are explained in a simple and systematic manner, with practical examples that help students understand how Maven and JDBC are used in real-world Java web applications.

You will begin by learning the fundamentals of Maven, including Maven project structure, pom.xml configuration, dependency management, and the Maven build lifecycle. You will also learn how to create a web application using Maven and add essential dependencies such as Servlet, JDBC, and MySQL Connector.

The second part of this unit focuses on JDBC (Java Database Connectivity), which provides a standard mechanism for Java applications to communicate with databases. You will understand JDBC architecture, different JDBC drivers, and important JDBC API components such as DriverManager, Connection, Statement, PreparedStatement, CallableStatement, and ResultSet.

You will also learn how to perform practical CRUD operations using MySQL, manage database transactions, and understand the fundamentals of Connection Pooling for efficient database connectivity.

📚 In this Unit, You will Learn:

  • 🔹 Introduction to Apache Maven

  • 🔹 Maven Project Structure

  • 🔹 Understanding and Configuring pom.xml

  • 🔹 Maven Dependency Management

  • 🔹 Maven Build Lifecycle

  • 🔹 Creating a Web Application using Maven

  • 🔹 Adding Servlet Dependencies

  • 🔹 Adding JDBC Dependencies

  • 🔹 Adding MySQL Connector Dependencies

  • 🔹 JDBC Architecture

  • 🔹 Types of JDBC Drivers

  • 🔹 JDBC API Components

  • 🔹 DriverManager

  • 🔹 Connection

  • 🔹 Statement

  • 🔹 PreparedStatement

  • 🔹 CallableStatement

  • 🔹 ResultSet

  • 🔹 CRUD Operations using MySQL

  • 🔹 Database Transactions and Transaction Management

  • 🔹 Introduction to Connection Pooling

  • 🔹 Practical Integration of Maven, JDBC, and MySQL

Throughout this unit, students will learn how Maven simplifies Java project management and dependency handling, while JDBC provides the foundation for connecting Java applications with relational databases.

By the end of this unit, students will be able to create and manage Maven-based Java web projects, configure dependencies, establish database connections, execute SQL queries, perform CRUD operations, and understand transaction management using JDBC and MySQL.

These skills provide an important foundation for developing advanced applications using Servlets, JSP, Hibernate/JPA, Spring, Spring Boot, and RESTful Web Services.
