Welcome to Unit 3: Data Visualization
Welcome to Unit 3 of Foundation of Data Science Using Python, where we explore the powerful world of Data Visualization using Python.
Data Visualization plays an important role in Data Science by transforming complex datasets into meaningful, clear, and visually understandable representations. In this unit, students will learn how to create, customize, and present effective visualizations using Matplotlib and Pandas.
The unit begins with a simple introduction to plotting and gradually introduces the fundamental components of a visualization, including Figures, Axes, plotting inputs, coding styles, helper functions, labels, scales, ticks, and styling techniques. These concepts help students understand how professional and informative charts are designed.
You will also learn how to customize visualizations by styling plot elements, labeling plots, controlling axis scales and ticks, working with color-mapped data, and managing multiple figures and axes. The unit further introduces Pyplot, keyword-based plotting, categorical variables, and techniques for controlling line properties.
Special attention is given to working with text and annotations, which can make visualizations more informative and easier to interpret. Students will also learn how different plotting techniques can be combined with Pandas for practical data analysis and visualization.
The unit concludes with a Bio-Signal Plotting Case Study using Matplotlib and Pandas, providing students with an opportunity to apply visualization concepts to a real-world type of dataset.
