Unit 1: Introduction to C Programming
Welcome to Unit 1 of C Language – Semester 1, where we begin our journey into the fundamentals of C Programming and Problem-Solving Techniques.
This unit is specially designed for beginners and introduces the basic concepts required to understand, write, and execute C programs. The topics are explained in a simple, structured, and practical manner so that students can gradually develop their programming logic and problem-solving skills.
You will begin by exploring the history and overview of C programming and understanding its importance among various programming languages. The unit introduces the C Character Set, Tokens, Keywords, Constants, Strings, Identifiers, and Variables, which form the basic building blocks of a C program.
You will then learn about Operators, Operator Precedence and Associativity, Data Types, Type Casting, and Type Conversion. These concepts are essential for performing calculations, processing data, and writing effective C programs.
The unit also introduces the fundamentals of Preprocessors in C and basic Logic Development Techniques. Students will learn how to solve programming problems using Algorithms and Flowcharts before writing actual C code.
A special focus is given to Dry Run and its use, which helps students manually trace program execution and understand how variables and statements change during program execution.
