Java Basic Programming, OOP & RMI – Unit 2 Study Material for BCA & IT Students (MCA Semester 1 - Advance Java Unit 2)

Welcome to Unit 2: Java Basic Programming and RMI

Welcome to Unit 2 of Java Programming, where we explore important concepts of Java Object-Oriented Programming, Exception Handling, Packages, Interfaces, and Remote Method Invocation (RMI).

This unit helps students strengthen their Java programming knowledge by understanding access specifiers, static and final keywords, inheritance, polymorphism, method overloading, method overriding, interfaces, packages, and exception handling. The unit also introduces Java RMI, which is used to develop distributed applications where a Java program can communicate with objects running on another computer.

You will begin by learning Access Specifiers, final, and static keywords. These concepts help control the visibility, behavior, and usage of classes, methods, and variables in Java.

The unit then introduces the important OOP concepts of Inheritance and Polymorphism. Students will learn how existing classes can be reused through inheritance and how polymorphism allows the same method or reference to behave differently in different situations.

You will also learn Method Overloading and Method Overriding, followed by Interfaces and Packages. These concepts are important for creating reusable, organized, and flexible Java applications.

The next topic is Exception Handling, which helps programmers handle runtime errors and prevent abnormal termination of applications.

The final part of this unit introduces Remote Method Invocation (RMI). Students will understand the basic architecture of distributed Java applications and learn the steps involved in creating a remote interface, developing server and client programs, starting the RMI Registry, and performing binding and lookup of remote objects.

Throughout this unit, students will learn how Java supports code reuse, access control, polymorphism, modular programming, error handling, and distributed application development.

By the end of this unit, students will be able to use access specifiers, apply final and static keywords, implement inheritance and polymorphism, differentiate method overloading and overriding, create interfaces and packages, handle exceptions, and understand the basic working of Java RMI applications.

This unit provides an important foundation for advanced Java technologies such as JDBC, Servlet, JSP, Hibernate, Spring, Spring Boot, and distributed application development.
