Welcome to Unit 1 of MCA2102 – Android Application Development using Kotlin, where we begin our journey into the world of Android Application Development, the Android Operating System, and Android Studio.
This unit provides students with a strong foundation in understanding mobile application development, Android architecture, Android versions, development tools, and the structure of Android applications. The concepts are explained in a simple, structured, and practical manner, making them suitable for MCA students who are beginning their Android development journey using Kotlin.
You will begin by exploring the fundamentals of Mobile Application Development and understanding its advantages. The unit also explains the important differences between Mobile Applications, Web Applications, and Hybrid Applications, helping students understand the characteristics and applications of different development approaches.
The unit then introduces the Android Operating System, its evolution, major Android versions and their features. You will also learn about Android Architecture and the role of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) in the development of the Android platform.
